Bats in Dormant Season Burns

After federally mandated fire suppression, managers are now attempting to restore historical fire regimes. With that comes challenges and uncertainties to the wildlife communities those ecosystems hold. After reeling from White-nose Syndrome bats have experienced dramatic losses to their populations and managers are wondering if they are equipped for the increased use of dormant season burns. To get at this question we evaluated bat activity within a pyric landscape in North Florida and investigated lasuirine bat resource selection during prescribed burns.
